A genuine device can still be carrier-locked, activation-locked, region-incompatible, repaired with unknown parts, blocked from networks, or sold without a usable warranty.
Do not treat a logo, product photo, title, or marketplace category as proof. Ask for verifiable facts tied to the exact unit or model you would receive.

Used iPhone checks
Apple’s current pre-owned iPhone guidance says not to buy an iPhone with Activation Lock enabled. Apple also recommends checking physical condition, battery health, parts and service history, and carrier lock. If an online purchase arrives at an “iPhone Locked to Owner” screen, Apple advises returning it.
